This album, 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, is the first and different from the normal Green Day sound. It consists of fast, hard drumming, lovesick lyrics, and a raw distorted sound that is similar to being recorded in a tin can. The riffs are insane in comparison to the other songs in the albums.

The sixth album, Warning, made its impact around 2000, changing the overall genre for Green Day for most people. This album isn't really like the others, it is more mellow and acoustic than the rest. Considered either the best or worst Green Day album, it still didn't do too bad rating.

The eighth album, 21st Century Breakdown, tells another story between two characters paired with relateable lyrics and catchy beats. People were expecting more out of this album after the 5 year absent span after the spectacular American Idiot. But overall, it was a decent and straightforward album.

This three album trio came out within two months of each other just last year in 2012. The much awaited albums were a mixture of punchy broadsides and heartfelt ballads that resembled melodramatic arena albums that "write in the camera's eye." They definitely weren't as good as expected according to these websites, but not terrible. They displayed simple, but charming retro garage rock. Most of the criticism came from the disappointed high expectations and inappropriate lyrics for their age.
